In this respect, a study by a colleague of mine in the case of planetary research in Italy (Innocences et al, Nature Astronomy, 2020) shows that during the first year of the pandemic, the total amount of publications dropped. But looking at gender-disagregated data, it appeared that this effect only affected female researcher: the amount of publication with a male researcher as first author increased by 10%.
This is a clear manifestation of the actual discrimination affecting female scientists, with a clear long-term effect on their career perspectives.
